GAINESVILLE, Fla – The University of Florida men’s lacrosse team is honored to be hosting the first annual Jamie Chapin Classic. The charity golf event and silent auction will be held on Feb. 19 at Ironwood Golf Course in Gainesville and will benefit UF Health’s fund for brain cancer treatment and research.

The benefit pays tribute to Jamie Chapin, a former Gator lacrosse captain and pioneer for the sport in the North Florida region. Chapin began his MCLA career in Tallahassee with Florida State before transferring to Florida. As a Gator under then head coach Ryan Winters, Chapin soon became a respected leader within the program and a steady producer on the field, contributing 48 goals and 28 assists during his time in orange and blue.

In June of 2010, not long after graduating from the University of Florida and starting a career with Deutsche Bank, Chapin was diagnosed with brain cancer.

After a hard-fought and inspiring battle with the disease, Jamie Chapin passed away in January of 2011. He was just 25 years old. His No. 8 jersey is forever retired among Gator lacrosse players.

All proceeds from the event will be donated in Jamie’s name to UF Health’s Research on Brain Cancer Immunotherapy led by Dr. Duane Mitchell.
