ATLANTA – After leading the Tommies to the UMLC championship and upending the top team in the country, St. Thomas junior attackman Cam Gelling is the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending April 27.
The Tommies opened up their defense of their conference crown on Saturday against Dayton and thanks to four goals and an assist from the St. Michael, Minn., native, St. Thomas breezed their way to the title game.
On Sunday against Grand Valley State – previously undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the country – Gelling struck for another hat trick and set up a fourth goal as the Tommies pulled the upset, 12-8.
For the weekend, he finished with seven goals and two dimes for St. Thomas.
“Cam has had to adapt to a new role in the offense and did so tremendously,” said St. Thomas offensive coordinator Ryan McNeil. “He has been a leader since he came to UST and continues to show it now even when things need to change to help the offense.
“Leading by example and adapting to change is why Cam has been so essential to this year's team and program.”
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Gelling will receive a Warrior XP2-O head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
