ATLANTA – After guiding Utah State to a 2-1 weekend at the Rocky Mountain Rumble, Aggies LSM/close defender Tycen Biggs earns Division II Warrior Player of the Week accolades for the period ending Feb. 16.
Utah State had a rough start to the weekend, falling to Air Force on Friday, but bounced back with big program wins over Cal State San Marcos and North Dakota State thanks to the Idaho Falls, Idaho, native.
Despite being a true long-stick midfielder, Biggs spent most of the weekend on close defense, racking up 12 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers while tasked with matching up with the opponent’s top gun.
“Tycen is our team president and one of our defensive captains,” said Utah State coach Scott Bingham. “He’s traditionally an LSM, but for this weekend we ran him at close because of his ability to lock down dangerous dodgers. If he’s anywhere close to a groundball it’s undoubtedly going to end up in his stick.
“Over the weekend Tycen broke the all-time record for ground balls at Utah State. Tycen possesses an incredible lacrosse IQ, letting him pick apart and understand an opposition’s offense and break down what they’re trying to do.
“No matter who he’s matched up with, Tycen is incredibly difficult to get past. He leads by example, sometimes taking matters in his own hands to run the ball the length of the field. Tycen is a true leader. He holds our guys accountable on the sideline and gets the team focused.”
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Biggs will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-D – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
