San Antonio Taco Trophy Created
SAN ANTONIO -- In an effort to celebrate men's college lacrosse in the city, the San Antonio Tacos -- and indoor developmental league for middle and high school players -- has announced the creation of the San Antonio Taco Trophy.
The award will be presented to the winner of the triangular lacrosse series between UT-San Antonio, Incarnate Word and Trinity. All three teams compete in the South division of the Lone Star Alliance (LSA).
The San Antonio Taco Trophy is the brainchild of Michael Brand, who operates the San Antonio Tacos Lacrosse Club while also coaching the Reagan High School varsity team. He created the trophy with inspiration all the way from Rhode Island.
"When Trinity reentered the LSA, I couldn't think of a better way to promote local college lacrosse," Brand said. "The Ocean State Cup between Brown, Bryant and Providence College inspired me to create this trophy. I am looking forward to the matchups of our local college lacrosse teams."
What They're Saying About the Taco Trophy
"The San Antonio Taco Trophy will introduce a new rivalry to collegiate lacrosse in San Antonio. Three teams trying to prove their worth against each other to become the best in San Antonio and also provide a whole years worth of bragging rights is a big deal" - Matthew Lundy, head coach at UT-San Antonio.
"It's great that Coach Brand and the Tacos have come up with this idea, and our boys are pumped. I think it's safe to say that teams in San Antonio feel we don't get the level of respect we deserve from other cities around the state. At the heart of this, we are adding something special to what I hope is a great year for all 3 of us, while promoting and growing a sport that means so much to these players and coaches." - Jeff O'Neill, head coach at Incarnate Word.
"We're thankful for the opportunity to grow the game in San Antonio while having the chance to compete for local bragging rights." - Patrick Hughes, head coach at Trinity.

About the San Antonio Tacos
The San Antonio Tacos were started in the late spring of 2016 to develop lacrosse skills for middle school and high school aged athletes. The club realized that the basis for getting better at field lacrosse, needed to be learning and mastering box lacrosse. In their first box sessions, athletes from Alamo Heights, Boerne, Central Catholic, Reagan, Roosevelt, St. Mary's Hall, Smithson Valley and TMI competed indoors. In the summer of 2017, the Tacos will compete in their first field tournaments around the state of Texas and beyond.
