Barnett and Kornitsky Take PEARL Honors

ATLANTA-&nbsp; To the victors go the spoils as the old saying goes.&nbsp; <a href="https://mcla.us/players/luke-barnett-570da4">Luke Barnett</a> and <a href="https://mcla.us/players/gavin-kornitsky-718dad">Gavin Kornitsky</a> led their teams to victories in their conference tournaments and as such have earned the spoils of being named the MCLA PEARL Goalie of the Week for their respective divisions.

Barnett and his UNC-Wilmington Seahawks went to Lynchburg and took home the ALC Division II championship.&nbsp; As he has been all season, Barnett was key to the Seahawks' success.&nbsp; In the final against Coastal Carolina Barnett made 14 saves while allowing only nine goals.&nbsp; The Seahawks held Coastal to less than ten goals for only the second time all season.

UNC-Wilmington head coach Will Farrow said, "Luke Barnett has been the anchor of our stout defense all year. As a freshman the lights were not too bright for him, and when we needed him the most, he stood on his head. Holding a stout Coastal offense to no goals in the final 27 minutes of play, Luke lead us to our first ever ALC championship."

Northeastern entered the CLC tournament as the defending champs and despite the Huskies having beaten Boston College the week prior most of those in the prognostication business were picking the Eagles to win the league.&nbsp; Against Temple in the semifinal goalie Gavin Kornitsky made 18 saves while only allowing five goals.&nbsp; The Huskies advanced to face their rivals in the title game.&nbsp; The Huskies went down early, but fought their way back.&nbsp; &nbsp;Fueled in part by Kornitsky the Huskies won 9-8 to take the league crown.&nbsp; Kornitsky made 15 saves while allowing eight goals to a talented Eagles team as Northeastern secured their ticket to the MCLA National Championships Presented by New Balance.

Northeastern head coach Tom Duca said, "Gavin has gotten better as the season has gone on, over the last couple weeks his rebound control and clearing have been a difference maker. Not giving teams second and third chances has been huge for us in tight games and &nbsp;has&nbsp;lead to more offense. We haven’t skipped a beat with Gavin in net and he has the full trust&nbsp;of the team."

For their efforts Kornitsky and Barnett have been named PEAL Goalie of the Week and will receive PEARL swag bags including PEARL balls, the official ball of the MCLA.&nbsp;
