ATLANTA – After leading the Huskies to a pair of impressive road wins to start the season, Northeastern netminder Sam Bellomy has been named the Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending Feb. 16.
Northeastern opened the weekend at previously undefeated Georgia Tech and thanks to 17 saves from the Hingham, Mass., product, the Huskies were able to rally from a 7-3 halftime deficit and trip up the Yellow Jackets in overtime, 12-11.
The Huskies then traveled to South Carolina, and again Bellomy turned away 17 shots, leading Northeastern to 10-7 victory.
For the weekend, he made 34 stops while allowing 19 goals – a save percentage of 64.2.
“Sam was once again our best player this past weekend,” said Northeastern coach Tom Duca. “Against Georgia Tech, we hung him out to dry in the first half as we were going through some learning curves of a new season. In the second half against South Carolina, he allowed just one goal.
“When opposing shooters look to the sky after he comes up with a big save, it reminds us how special he is because those type of saves have become routine over the past four years. Bell is a game changer who gives us a chance to win any game we play in.”
As the recipient of the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, Bellomy will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.
