ATLANTA – After leading the Cougars to a pair of huge conference victories that earned them the RMLC top seed, Brigham Young junior attackman Gavin Taylor is the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending April 20.

BYU opened the week with a huge rivalry game at Utah and Taylor helped the Cougars cause with a goal and two assists. This set up the regular-season finale against No. 4 Utah Valley at home.

The American Fork, Utah, native came up big for BYU, factoring in over a third of the team’s offensive output in an 11-9 thriller. Taylor finished up two goals and two assists in the victory.

For the week, he had three goals and four assists along with five ground balls.

“I absolutely love having Gavin on the team,” said Brigham Young coach Matt Schneck. “He is one of the hardest working players and consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership and tenacity in every practice and in every game.

“He sets the tone for our team with relentless effort both as an offensive player and the way he buys into our ride and finds ways to keep the ball on the offensive end of the field. Gavin is an all-around player you can trust anywhere on the field. He makes smart decisions under pressure, and never backs down from a challenge.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Taylor will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
