Cal Poly’s Stickney Earns Award

ATLANTA – With a huge performance in Cal Poly’s upset of No. 1 California on Saturday, Mustangs sophomore midfielder Mitch Stickney has earned MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending April 16.

Facing off against the lone remaining undefeated team in the country in top-ranked Cal, the Mercer Island, Wash., product buried five goals to spark Cal Poly to the 13-10 win.

The win gives the No. 5 Mustangs the top seed in the upcoming WCLL tournament.

“Mitch is tough, dodges hard, and isn't afraid to shoot,” said Cal Poly coach Bobby Dabrieo. “He tends to be at his best in big games and we'll continue to rely on him to be a key component of our offense as we head into the postseason.”

For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Stickney will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Under Armour Honor Roll

Bryan Cooper, Sr. – Virginia Tech
In the most thrilling game of the week, Cooper made 16 saves in a triple overtime victory against No. 19 Liberty, 14-13, giving the Hokies a 10-game winning streak.

Niklas Damberg, Jr. – Minnesota
Damberg won 20-of-24 faceoffs with 16 ground balls in a win over Davenport followed by winning 14-of-23 against St. Thomas along with another 10 ground balls.

Danny Kransberger, Gr. – Davenport
Faced with an onslaught of Minnesota shots in the Panthers 14-8 loss, Kransberger stood tall with an amazing 38 saves and a 73.1 save percentage.

Jeremy Lashar, Sr. – Simon Fraser
Fresh off a shutout of Boise State last week, Lashar stopped 17 shots and allowed just four goals (81.0 sv %) to No. 13 Oregon State as the Clan pulled off the upset, 9-4.

Tucker Schwarz, Sr. – Florida State
Facing archrival Florida with the division championship on the line, Schwarz buried five goals and set up a fifth to guide the Seminoles to the 10-8 victory.

Michael Spidell, Jr. – Clemson
In a huge rivalry game against South Carolina that had serious postseason implications, Spidell struck for seven goals as the Tigers took home the 15-11 triumph.

Ryan Tyrrell, Jr. – Texas
Thanks to the play of the Longhorns goalie, Texas split its Utah trip, beating the Utes on a spectacular goaltending performance before taking No. 6 BYU to overtime on Saturday. He had a combined 35 saves.
