ATLANTA – He led his team to three impressive wins in Fort Payne, Ala., and for his efforts UNC-Charlotte senior attackman Kolson Huff is the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending March 23.
The sixth-ranked 49ers started the weekend against No. 2 Florida Atlantic and thanks to six goals and an assist from the Holly Springs, N.C., native, Charlotte claimed the 14-13 victory.
On Saturday, Huff contributed another hat trick with a dime as the Niners doubled up Rhode Island, 14-7. He capped off the three-game sweep with six more goals and an assist against No. 14 Tulane in a 14-9 triumph.
For the weekend, Huff amassed 15 goals and three assists for the undefeated 49ers.
“Since Kolson arrived at Charlotte, he’s been a leader,” said UNC-Charlotte coach Liam O’Halloran. “A true student of the game, his knowledge and passion are unmatched. When we need things to be more competitive at practice he flips the switch, hits another gear and everyone has to raise their level of play.
“A championship-caliber player with a ring from NCAA Division II Lenoir Rhyne, he elevates everyone around him, understands the value of team and was voted captain by his peers. He looks to get teammates involved and is always at his best when we’re playing the toughest opponents.
“Kolson is a young man of strong character, a competitor, a player every coach dreams of having. He sets the Charlotte gold standard and we are very fortunate to have 12 wearing the green and gold.”
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Huff will receive a Warrior XP2-O – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
