ATLANTA – After knocking off formerly top-ranked Virginia Tech on Friday night, Georgia Tech has ascended to the No. 1 ranking in the MCLA Division I New Balance Weekly Coaches Poll, which was released on March 8.
The Yellow Jackets (8-0), which defeated No. 14 California (3-4) on Sunday, were awarded all 26 first-place votes from the pollsters.
Virginia Tech (8-1) fell to the second spot on the poll as the Hokies bounced back from the Yellow Jacket loss by defeating Cal.
Florida State (7-0) and Liberty (4-1) retain their previous spots at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.
Boston College (4-1) jumped from No. 9 to No. 5 this week after a successful road trip to SoCal.
Two-time defending champion South Carolina (1-6) dropped out of the Top 25 this week along with Oregon (2-2). They were replaced by No. 23 Simon Fraser (3-0) and No. 25 Pittsburgh (5-0).
