ATLANTA- Gavin Kornitsky from Northeastern and Brogan Rice from College of Idaho have been named PEARL MCLA Goalie of the Week for Division I and Division II respectively.
Rice led his team into a top-five match up against Montana. The Nampa, Idaho native answered the call turning away eleven shots form Montana. The Yotes needed every save as they won 10-9 in overtime after Montana tied the game in the fourth quarter.
Yotes head coach Drake O’Neill said, “Brogan “The Wall” Rice fully encompassed his nickname this weekend. In a top 10 conference rivalry, he continued his great season and was a wall in goal for us all game. He kept calm, cool, and collected throughout Montana’s fourth quarter push and made a huge save in Overtime. Brogan continued to show why he is one of the best goalies in the country.”
Kornitsky anchored the Northeastern defense in their game against New Hampshire. The junior from Swampscott, Massachusetts totaled 19 saves for the Huskies and added a goal for good measure.
Northeastern head coach Thomas Duca said, “Gavin has stepped into a starters role this season, even though he has been starting caliber since he has been on campus. He had some big shoes to fill and we haven't missed a beat with him in the net. He has been an outstanding ball stopper no matter where the shot comes from and has kept us in every game we've played this year. We will continue to lean on him as we make the final push of the season.”
In recognition of their efforts, Rice and Kornitsky will receive a PEARL swag bag including PEARL balls, the official ball of the MCLA.
