Texas’ Hupp Earns Warrior Player of Week

ATLANTA – After leading Texas to a 3-0 trip to NorCal, including a pair of ranked victories, Longhorn senior midfielder Sterling Hupp is the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending March 10.

The Longhorns started their trip on Thursday with a visit to Stanford and the Lakeway, Texas, native was sharp from the get go, finishing with two goals and three assists in the comfy win.

On Saturday, UT clashed with top-ranked Georgia Tech in Berkeley and Hupp guided the ‘Horns to the stunning upset. He finished with four goals and a dime in a dominant, 14-8 triumph.

Texas capped off the weekend on Sunday against No. 13 Cal with another hat trick along with two helpers in the 19-16 shootout.

For the weekend, Hupp amassed nine goals and six assists against premium competition on the road.

“Sterling is a matchup nightmare for any defenseman and unit in the country,” said Texas coach Kyle Hartzel. “His ability to create for himself draws the attention of defenses and opens up all of his teammates around him. He has great vision and really does it all for us.

“What I am most impressed about is how relentless he is on our ride and attacking loose balls. He really is the complete package and has emerged this year as one of the best players in the country. He is a huge part of who we are and how we play.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Hupp will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Logan Aiello, Soph. – Tennessee
In the Vols upset of No. 10 Florida State, the Crownsville, Md., native dropped a 10-spot on the Seminoles with six goals and four assists.

Judd Boniface, Soph. – James Madison
The Dukes knocked off No. 22 Arizona last Monday thanks to seven goals and three assists by the middie from Middletown, Md. His previous career high for goals was one.

Bennett Breheny, Fr. - Missouri
In a road conference victory over Arkansas, the St. Louis middie buried five goals and set up five others in the Tigers triumph.

Dante DeCollibus, Soph. – Chapman
The Panthers took down No. 11 Florida helped by four goals and an assist from the attackman out of San Clemente, Calif.

Ty DeLancellotti, Sr. – Oregon
The attackman out of Lake Oswego, Ore., factored in on nine (5g, 4a) of the Ducks 13 goals in victory over Southern Methodist.

Jake Halversen, Sr. – Brigham Young
In a 3-0 week for the Cougars, the Beaverton, Ore., native posted a combined eight goals, eight assists and five ground balls.

Lucas Menendez, Sr. – UC Santa Barbara
The Gauchos picked up an important conference win over Santa Barbara aided by a hat trick and six dimes form the Manhattan Beach product.

Ryan Sanders, Soph. – Cal Poly
The Mustangs posted a pair of key conference victories thanks to a combined eight goals and five assists from the Alamo, Calif., attackman.
