ATLANTA - Houston junior Christian Venzor and Sonoma State senior Benen Powers pushed their teams to significant wins over the weekend.
Venzor tallied seven points in the Cougars win over Lone Star Alliance (LSA) South competitors Dallas Baptist. Venzor scored four goals and dished out three assists. In the process Venzor hit the 100 career point mark.
Houston head coach Josh us Dieckmann said, "I’ve seen Christian put in the work every single day, and honestly, watching his growth has meant a lot to me not just as a player, but as a person. The way he shows up, stays consistent, and carries himself has been special to watch. Hitting 100 career points and earning Player of the Week is just a reflection of all that work. I’m really proud of the man and player he has become."
Powers and his Sea Wolves took a trip north to Eugene to face the Oregon Ducks. Sonoma's defense tends to get the headlines, but Powers paced the Sonoma offense with five goals in the 11-8 win over Oregon. Powers has been the engine for the Sea Wolves all the season and this past weekend was no different as Sonoma took a ranked win on the road.
Sonoma State head coach Ben Hewitt said, "Benen is a phenomenal leader on and off the field of play and is just about everything a coach would hope for in working with a student athlete."
For their efforts Venzor and Powers will each receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
