Dallas Baptist Inks Nine-Player Class
DALLAS -- Entering their second season at Dallas Baptist University, the Patriots' lacrosse team has signed their recruiting class for the 2015-16 season. As the Patriots gear-up for a new year, DBU head coach Joe Richardson anticipates the additions of this class to make an impact on the field.
"It is a privilege to build the Patriot Lacrosse program at Dallas Baptist University and to see this group of men be a part of our future success," Richardson said. "We are excited to blend the first recruited class with the inaugural team from 2015 season. We are looking forward to starting work on the field and in the weight room soon, and these men are going to be a part of that determination."
Listed below is a breakdown of the 14 players that have signed at DBU for 2016.
Defender- John Weaver Horton (Rockwall, TX) - Rockwall/Heath Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "Weaver is an athletic and solid defender who has the ability to extend out to his man. He does a great job at pressuring his man and recovering on defense". Horton received All State Honorable Mention award for the 2015 THSLL season.
Attack-JC Degenhardt (Spring, TX) - Klein Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "JC is a very explosive athlete that will be a large part of our offensive success because he has the ability to get to the middle of the defense with great vision. Patriot lacrosse is very excited to see JC do what he does best, which is score goals and make assists." Degenhardt received All State Honorable Mention award for the 2015 THSLL season.
LSM-Luke Berry (Dallas, TX) – Hillcrest Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "We look forward to seeing Luke transition into an offensive and defensive threat as a Patriot. Luke is a multi-dimensional athlete who is very aggressive and has great field awareness. Luke will be a huge asset for Patriot lacrosse on both the offensive and defensive side of the field." Berry received All State Honorable Mention award for the 2015 THSLL season.
Defender-John Karol (Chesapeake, VA) – Grass Field Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "John is an athletic defender who is a great leader on defense, John communicates extremely well to his teammates. John has the ability to extend out to his man and play aggressive defense which will give us opportunities to get the ball on the ground." Karol received All Conference Honors for the 2015 Hampton Roads Lacrosse League.
Midfielder-Nick Veillon (Cypress, TX) – Cy-Fair Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "Nick is a very talented lacrosse player that will add many benefits to Patriot lacrosse offense. Nick has the ability to beat his man and make good decisions with the ball knowing whether to score or get the assist."
Goalie-Tyler Middleton (Vista Ridge, TX) – Vista Ridge Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "Tyler brings great leadership and strong communication to our defense. Tyler's ability to lead and hardworking demeanor will allow for Patriot Lacrosse to achieve future goals. We are excited to have Tyler step in to a very important role for Patriot Lacrosse as the starting goalie for 2015."
Attack-Austin Hicks (Bella vista, AR) – BWA Bulls Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "Austin brings Patriot lacrosse the skill to finish around the cage with his crease presence and ability to catch and finish. Austin is also a hard working player on ground balls and has great field awareness. Austin will be a large part to our success on the offensive side of the field."
Midfielder-Alex Paulsen (Frisco, TX) – Frisco Lacrosse
Coach Richardson: "Alex will be a large part to our future success for Patriot Lacrosse with his physicality and ability to dodge hard to the cage. Patriot lacrosse is excited to seeing Alex be a influential player for years to come."
Defender-Antonio Torres (Houston, TX)
Coach Richardson: "Antonio provides Patriot lacrosse depth at both defense and midfield position with his ability to work hard and listen. Antonio will be a valuable player for Patriot lacrosse to be utilized as his team needs him."
