Grand Canyon Tops SLC Poll
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Grand Canyon won its first Division I MCLA national championship in just its fourth year in the association last spring, and now the Lopes have been chosen as the massive favorite to repeat as league champion of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference, according to the preseason coaches poll.
Grand Canyon took down all nine first place votes after finishing with a 16-1 record last spring, including a 9-8 victory over Colorado in the MCLA title contest.
Chapman has been set up in the second spot, 10 points behind the Lopes. The Panthers lost to Grand Canyon by three in the national semifinals, posting a 16-4 mark for the season.
Arizona State, which also made the 16-team field at the national tournament, and Arizona round out the top four.
