Owls Welcome West Virginia to Nest
KENNESAW, Ga. – It is game week on the campus of Kennesaw State University as the Owls welcome the West Virginia Mountaineers to town Friday night, where the schools will meet on the lacrosse field for the first time.
The Owls had the weekend off after a season-opening road trip in which the team picked up two wins over SELC opponents UNC-Charlotte and Davidson. The team took the opportunity to contribute outside the program, volunteering some time with the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs eighth grade lacrosse team, who is coached by Owl alumni Scott Schulze.
The team returned to the Owl’s Nest Tuesday night in preparation for the Mountaineers.
“We have to clean up some things in transition,” said assistant coach Tom Mudrak. “We really focused on that last week, and we’ll work it again this week before WVU.”
The Mountaineers, out of the Northwest Division of SELC D-I, return 21 players from a roster that finished the season 3-7 in 2015. In addition, WVU added 13 freshmen to the squad.
“They have some good players and they are going to have depth. This is going to be a very good challenge for our team.” said coach Tyler Yelken. “It will be a great game.”
The Owls come into Friday night’s game with a 12-game home winning streak that dates back to 2013. Under Yelken, the Owls are 3-0 against SELC Division I teams.
Family Affair
Friday night’s match up will be a clash of brothers as star attackman Cody Clark will be going head to head with his younger brother, Tyler Clark, who starts at attack for West Virginia. This will be the first time the Woodstock natives have played on the same field since high school, where the two played right up the road at Woodstock High.
