Chapman's Melbye Earns D-I Weekly Award
ATLANTA – For his work on all levels of the field in a 4-0 week for Chapman, junior defensive middie Brent Melbye has earned the MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending March 6.
Two of the four wins for the No. 1 Panthers came against ranked teams. On Friday night at the LAX Coaches vs. Cancer event in Las Vegas, Chapman fended off No. 4 Brigham Young in overtime thanks to Melbye.
In addition to his stellar defensive work, the Carlsbad, Calif., native grabbed a key ground ball off a faceoff to help get the Panthers to within one late in the contest, and then went coast-to-coast minutes later to tie the game with his first goal of the season.
In the four wins, Chapman allowed an average of five goals a game, including a shutout of Texas on Sunday, 19-0, helped by Melbye’s shorty work.
“Brent is our best defensive middie and has been one of the catalysts on defense and faceoff wing play,” said Chapman coach Dallas Hartley. “He is very fast, tenacious, and a smart team defender. We ask him to guard the second best player on each line, as well as guard a third attackman to bump two poles to midfield. He is one of our best ground ball players and a threat in transition.”
For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Melbye will receive a new Under Armour Command Head. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
