Oregon State Grinds Out PNCLL Title
BOISE – Last weekend Oregon State lost to archrival Oregon by a pair of goals in the regular season finale. On Sunday, the Beavers got redemption as they defeated the Ducks, 10-8, in the championship game of the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League (PNCLL) Division I tournament at Boise State.
The victory clinches an automatic bid to the 2016 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Orange County, Calif., from May 9-14. It will be the second-straight appearance at nationals for Oregon State (11-4) and third overall. The Beavers will find out their seed and matchup this evening.
The rematch got off to a very slow start. The contest was tied at two after one quarter and Oregon State held a 3-2 lead over Oregon (12-4) at the half. The Beavers had a solid third quarter to take a 6-3 advantage into the final frame.
OSU expanded the lead to four with under 10 minutes left in the game, 8-4, but the Ducks made things interesting with one final push. The margin was cut to 8-7, but a strong finish sealed it for Oregon State.
