Sonoma Caps Off Homestand
(from a Sonoma State release)
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State men's lacrosse team finished up its homestand with wins over No. 12 UC Santa Barbara (12-9) and Chico State (12-3). The victories bring the Seawolves season record to 8-4 as they head to divisional foe and sixth-ranked Cal Poly on Saturday April 8.
The Seawolves welcomed the UCSB to town on March 28 and the game started out back and forth with teams trading goals before the Gauchos steamed to a 4-2 first quarter lead.
However, it was all Seawolves after that. Led at the faceoff 'X' by Gio Rico and in goal by Noah Alford, the Seawolves outscored UCSB, 4-1 in the second quarter to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the defense heated up and the Seawolves extended their lead to 9-6 with goals by senior Tyler Yamamoto and junior Clayton Martin.
The fourth quarter was much of the same as the Seawolves gave up the first goal of the quarter but then took a four-goal lead into late stages of the game before giving up one goal with 5 seconds left.
On short rest, the Seawolves turned around and battled Chico State. A divisional game with WCLL tournament implications and final home game for our seniors, the team came out firing. They took a 3-1 lead and never looked back as the team finished the game on a 9-2 run and finished with a 12-3 victory.
This weekend the Seawolves head to San Luis Obispo to take on the No. 6 Cal Poly Mustangs. Faceoff is 1 p.m.
