CCSU Releases Captains, Sked
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Fresh off an 8-6 campaign that culminated in an appearance in the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League (PCLL) Division II championship game, Central Connecticut State has announced its captains and schedule for the 2018 season.
The Blue Devils will go with five captains to guide the program this spring.
Senior defender Christian Bonilla, senior midfielder Mike Couillard, junior long-stick midfielder Lucas Alloway, junior midfielder Matt Clark and junior midfielder Jameson Steinhardt were all tabbed for the honor.
Bonilla, a West Hartford, Conn., produuct and a transfer from NCAA Division III Western Connecticut, has brought a work ethic and team accountability that has kept a young team progressing.
Coulliard, a native of Wolcott, Conn., tore his bicep and labrum in last year’s PCLL championship game and has spent the offseason rehabbing. Couillard has been a vocal leader at practice and is itching to take the field in full pads and contribute.
Alloway, who hails from Waterford, Conn., and transferred from NCAA Division III Eastern Conn., has been the team's fall leader. As team president and returning defensive starter, he has helped the defensive unit learn last year's systems at an accelerated rate.
Clark, from West Hartford, Conn., looks to improve on last year’s 29 points and second team all-conference selection. A hard-nosed player who has shown an willingness to shoot and dodge to the cage; Clark has an aggressiveness that will be needed to make up for the graduation of three starting attackmen.
Steinhardt, a native of New Milford, Conn., returns to lead the first midfield unit. A returning first team all-conference player, Steinhardt recorded 43 points to lead the league’s highest scoring offense. A fast and aggressive player who has led with a calm demeanor, Steinhardt helps bring a sense of confidence to the young Blue Devils.
The five captains will lead Central Conn. State against a 14-game schedule featuring four teams that qualified for the 2017 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.
"With the strides that we have taken, Central is thinking another postseason run is ahead of them," said CCSU coach Brendan Frobel. "With those expectations comes a daunting early season schedule to prepare for conference play."
