SAN FRANCISCO – After finishing the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League schedule undefeated, Sierra Nevada will be the top seed in the Division II conference tournament that begins on Saturday, April 28 in Rohnert Park, Calif.
The Eagles (6-4, 5-0), who are the three-time defending WCLL champs, will take on fourth-seeded St. Mary’s (4-8, 2-3) at noon. The two teams met on Feb. 18 with Sierra Nevada taking the 15-1 decision.
In the 3 p.m. semifinal, No. 2 seed UC Santa Cruz (7-4, 4-1) will square off with third-seeded UC Davis (9-4, 3-2). The Banana Slugs defeated the Aggies, 10-4, last weekend in Santa Cruz.
The winners of the two semifinals will meet on Sunday at 11 a.m. with the winner earning an automatic qualifying berth to the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour in Salt Lake City from May 7-12.
“As always, we expect a very competitive tournament this weekend at Rancho Cotate High School,” said WCLL president Aaron Myers. “Our Division II teams are improving every year and this will be a perfect showcase for that.”
Admission to the WCLL Division II semifinals and finals will be $10 for adults, $5 students and free for children under 8.
Both semifinals and the championship game of the WCLL Division I Tournament will be streamed live on the NorCal SportsTV YouTube page.
