OREM, Utah – With a dominating, 17-10 victory over Colorado on Saturday afternoon at Utah Valley University, Utah won the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC) Division I championship for the first time in program history.
With seven unanswered goals in the first nine minutes of the game, the Utes quickly put their stamp on the title game.
Colorado made a spirited run to end the first half, trimming the margin to 9-6 heading into the break. Utah opened up the third quarter with a 5-0 run, however, that dispatched any comeback hopes.
With the win, Utah automatically qualifies for the 2018 MCLA National Championship powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 7-12.
“No excuses and find a way,” said Utah coach Brian Holman about the RMLC championship run. “Just take care of ourselves and worry about what Utah can do it better. That’s it in a mini-snapshot.”
Utah will find out on Sunday night who will be its opponent in the first round of nationals.
