BC Sweeps the Sunshine State
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College men’s lacrosse team traveled to Orlando, Fla, for its spring break trip to take on a slate of three games which all resulted in victories for the Eagles.
The Eagles’ first contender was Florida. In a highly contested matchup, the Eagles were victorious,13-10. The Eagles were led by sophomore midfielders Rish Basu and Barry Mitchell with each scoring a hat trick.
The Eagles’ matchup against Florida State was one of those games that had it going from the beginning.
After a 30 minute lightning delay, the matchup was a heated one to say the least.
Florida State came out to an early 4-0 lead when the Eagles stormed back with five unanswered goals. Sophomore Rish Basu once again led the Eagles with a stellar performance of four goals and an assist along with junior Connor Barrett penning in a hat trick himself.
With 11 minutes left to play in the contest, Boston College was up 15-10 — but Florida State would not take no for an answer. With 53 seconds remaining, Florida State scored four unanswered goals to cut the lead to one.
To no avail, as Boston College ran out the clock to defeat the No. 15 team in the country.
Sophomore attackman Gianni Callegari believes the Eagles’ future is bright.
“I know everyone has talked about how young of a team we are, but we have really strong senior leadership and that helped tremendously in the [game against Florida State]” Callegari said. "Unsung heroes like Greg Swenson bring the juice on the sideline which undoubtedly helps us on the field.”
In the final game of the trip, the Eagles convincingly defeated the Central Florida, 17-9.
The Eagles’ next matchup will be against Central Connecticut State on March 22. This game will be the Eagles’ home opener before they take on CLC Division I opponents in the following contests.
