ATLANTA – After playing a critical role in helping the Lopes pull a huge upset, Grand Canyon freshman faceoff specialist Jesse Guilbault earned MCLA Division I Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour for the period ending March 17.
With No. 16 Grand Canyon in desperate need of a statement win, Guilbault insured they got it on Saturday against No. 3 Concordia-Irvine.
The Bel Air, Md., product won 20 of the 24 (83.3 percent) draws he took against the Eagles, allowing the Lopes to take a 7-3 lead at halftime and cruise home for a 12-10 victory.
Guilbault also added 10 ground balls to his stat line.
“We needed a huge day out of our defense and Jesse, and both delivered,” said Grand Canyon coach Manny Rapkin. “He was important in keeping our momentum and stopping Concordia from getting any of their own.”
For his efforts in earning the Commanding Performance of the Week powered by Under Armour, Guilbault will receive a new Under Armour Command Head – a $100 value. Under Armour is the proud sponsor of the MCLA.
