LMU’s O’Connor Named Goalie of Week
ATLANTA – After leading the Lions to another ranked win, Loyola Marymount senior netminder Kian O’Connor has been named Pearl’s Goalie of the Week for the period ending March 3.
In a contest against No. 17 Cal State San Marcos that very well may have conference and national postseason implications, the Santa Barbara, Calif., native made 17 saves and allowed just eight goals (68.0 sv%) to ensure the 11-8 win.
So far this season, O’Connor is 4-1 with the only coming to Division I UCLA.
“Kian shows up to practice every day to compete and leads by example,” said Loyola Marymount coach Ryan Kelly. “The senior captain is always asking for more reps and working to get better within the cage. Even during water breaks or non-goalie focused drills, he can be seen off to the side working on his footwork or stick positioning.
“Generally soft-spoken, when he voices his opinion about our rotations, slides or clears he has everyone's full attention ready to put it all out on the line for him.”
For his efforts in earning the Pearl’s Performance of the Week, O’Connor will receive a prize package from Guardian Pearl, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian Pearl is the proud partner of the MCLA.
