April 26th, 2019 General News | Baylor | Creighton | Louisiana | Mo. State | Oklahoma State | Rice | Southeastern Louisiana | St. Edward's | TAMU-CC | TAMU-Galveston | UT-San Antonio

DALLAS – Rice’s Davis Nelson was named the Division II Lone Star Alliance Most Valuable Player, leading the all-conference award winners that were unveiled on Friday, a day before the start of the league’s tournament championship.

Nelson finished the season with 59 points (41g, 18a) while also winning 86-of-117 (73.5%) of his faceoffs. In addition to being a first team all-conference pick out of the midfield, he was a third team selection as a faceoff specialist.

Joining Nelson with individual awards was a pair of Missouri State players. Attackman Kyle Hunter was named the Rookie of the Year while goalie Scott Thomas was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year.

Midfielder Michael Ferrer of UT-San Antonio took home Offensive Player of the Year kudos.

Rice’s Mike Ormsby earned Coach of the Year accolades after guiding the Owls to a 6-1 mark.
