SELC-I Belongs to South Carolina
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – With a convincing three-game performance that included wins over the Nos. 2 and 3 teams in the country, South Carolina won the 2019 SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Division championship at Northview High School on Sunday.
With the win, the Gamecocks (17-2) have automatically qualified for the 2019 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 6-11.
This will be South Carolina’s second appearance at nationals after advancing to the national semifinals last spring.
The Gamecocks took little time putting their mark on this game, racing out to a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes and forcing Georgia Tech (16-1) into the uncomfortable role of playing from behind.
The Yellow Jackets made a couple of brief runs to get back into the game, but the were parried every time by South Carolina. The Gamecocks were helped by the outstanding goalie play of Colin Hains.
South Carolina will find out its seed this evening when the selection committee unveils the bracket, which will be available on MCLA.us. Georgia Tech will also find out its at-large fate this evening.
