Charleston’s Lopez is Top D-II Goalie
ATLANTA – After leading the College of Charleston to its first-ever Top 10 victory, senior netminder Carson Lopez earned MCLA Division II PEARL Goalie of the Week honors for the period ending Feb. 23.
Lopez started the weekend with a strong performance in the Cougars’ 16-5 victory over Appalachian State. The Spartanburg, S.C., product deflected 14 shots and allowed just five goals (73.7 save percentage) in Charleston’s 14-5 win over the Mountaineers.
On Sunday, College of Charleston ran into No. 9 North Florida, and behind Lopez’s efforts, the Cougars pulled off the 15-12 victory. Lopez made 16 saves to post the victory, his third of the year.
For the weekend, Lopez turned away 30 of the 47 (63.8%) shots he faced.
“Carson Lopez is the starting goalie and president of the College of Charleston lacrosse team,” said College of Charleston coach Miller Barbour. “In addition to that, he has two jobs and studies Business Administration at the college.
