UT-Dallas’ Scalley is PEARL Goalie of Week
ATLANTA – After guiding the University of Texas at Dallas squad to a 2-1 start to the 2020 season, Comets grad goalie John Scalley earned MCLA Division II PEARL Goalie of the Week honors for the period ending Feb. 9.
UT-Dallas opened the three-game weekend slate with a narrow, 12-11 victory over Oklahoma State where Scalley proved to be the difference. The Coppell, Texas, product turned away 16 shots to pick up the win.
The Comets fell to a gritty MSU Denver team in the second contest, but Scalley still made 19 stops in the 14-6 setback.
UTD wrapped up the weekend with a 12-6 win over Kansas State where Scalley made seven saves against just two goals against before giving way to his back up.
For the weekend, Scalley made 42 saves against 27 goals against – a solid 60.9 save percentage.
“Scalley's performance set the tone for the season with his focus and leadership, especially as we opened our season with two key divisional games as well as a strong non-conference opponent,” said UT-Dallas coach Mark Austin. “He's done a great job this year of teaching the newer guys on our team along with enabling his more experienced teammates to continue to grow.”
For his efforts in earning the Pearl’s Performance of the Week, Scalley will receive a prize package from Guardian Pearl, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian Pearl is the proud partner of the MCLA.
