KSU’s Molander Earns Goalie of Week
ATLANTA – After leading the Owls to a pair of ranked wins, including knocking off the top team in the country, Kennesaw State senior netminder Jay Molander earns PEARL Goalie of the Weeks honors for the period ending March 8.
Kennesaw stared down No. 1 Minn.-Duluth on Saturday afternoon at Music City Judgement in Nashville and the Acworth, Ga., product was the difference for the Owls.
Molander turned away a staggering 17 shots while allowing just five goals (77.3 save percentage) in Kennesaw’s 10-5 victory.
The following day the Owls matched up with No. 21 Rhode Island and again Molander made the difference. In a tight, 11-10 victory, he made 14 saves to pick up the win.
For the weekend, he turned away 31 of 46 shots (67.4 save percentage).
"Jay Molander was the backbone of our great defensive effort this weekend,” said Kennesaw State coach Alex Gavilla. “What makes Jay different is his ability to catch the ball off the save. It gave us so many quick transition opportunities all weekend.”
For his efforts in earning the Pearl’s Performance of the Week, Molander will receive a prize package from Guardian Pearl, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian Pearl is the proud partner of the MCLA.
