D-II Finals: Fla. Atlantic at St. John’s

D-II Finals: Fla. Atlantic at St. John’s

May 5th, 2020 Opinion | FAU | St. Johns

MINNEAPOLIS – The St. John’s campus is not going to be big enough to host this Division II title tilt of the 2020 MCLA Virtual Tournament presented by New Balance.

Nope, we’re heading south to TCF Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota to host this clash between No. 19 Florida Atlantic and No. 9 St. John’s.

Putting the rankings aside, this is a David against Goliath scenario.

The plucky Johnnies have managed to roll into the finals with an effective get-out-the-vote strategy, but they will go up against an Owls program boasting a student body 15 times the size of St. John’s.

Those are some heavy odds in the Twitter poll game.

Both of these teams have employed a rather effective rope-a-dope strategy in previous matchups, allowing their opponents to pile up a seemingly insurmountable vote lead before pouncing at the end with a final push.

It might be of the virtual variety, but someone will be wearing a crown at the end of the week.
