CUI’s Schweickert Goalie of Week
ATLANTA – After leading Concordia-Irvine to an upset road-victory against No. 2 California on Saturday evening, Eagles senior Tyler Schweickert has earned MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week honors for the period ending Feb. 27.
Concordia-Irvine traveled to Berkeley to face a 5-0 Cal outfit that had already pocketed wins over Cal Poly and Chapman and were breathing down the neck of Brigham Young for the top spot in the weekly polls.
And then Schweickert rolled into town.
The Tustin, Calif., product racked up 22 saves against the Golden Bears, allowing the Eagles to walk away with an impressive, 10-9, upset.
“Tyler has been incredibly consistent in net this year,” said Concordia-Irvine coach Jesse Foss. “This marks back-to-back games where the defense has held its opponent to under 10 goals.
“What makes Tyler so special is his leadership on and off the field. His impact on the team far exceeds any saves he may have. He is playing with a purpose this year and the rest of the team is right there behind him. Schweickert is ready to leave his legacy on the CUI program.”
For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, Schweickert will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.
