Charlotte’s Becker Named Goalie of Week
ATLANTA – After backstopping UNC-Charlotte to a pivotal conference win over a ranked opponent, 49ers senior netminder Noah Becker earned MCLA Division II PEARL Goalie of the Week accolades for the period ending April 10.
Heading into a clash with No. 20 Wake Forest to see who has the inside track on the Atlantic Lacrosse Conference (ALC) top seed, the Eden Prairie, Minn., product made 18 saves while allowing just seven goals – a save percentage of 72.0 – in an 18-7 victory.
For the season, Becker has stopped 64.0 percent of the shots that have come his way for the 49ers.
This is the second time he has won the award this season.
"Noah, in the biggest game of his career, played his best game as a 49er,” said UNC-Charlotte coach Nick Nedvesky. “On the road against a division rival and
Top 20 team, Noah had a career high in saves and committed zero turnovers in the clearing game. He executed all three phases of goalie play – saves, clears and communication – at the highest level I’ve ever seen.
“Not often do you see a coaching staff throw their hands in the air in utter disbelief about how their goalie is doing these things. That was me and my staff on the sidelines Sunday against Wake Forest.”
For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, Becker will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.
