BYU Announces Schedule
PROVO, Utah -- Brigham Young, the defending Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC) Division I champions, is looking to repeat its 2022 success while keeping their eyes set on the 2023 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance. The Cougars have scheduled a challenging campaign to help their preparation.
“We are excited to see what this new squad can do together this season against some of the MCLA’s best teams, including several defending conference champions” said BYU coach Matt Schneck. “After a successful fall campaign, we are starting to see their potential, but fully recognize that there is more work to be done. We have put together an incredible schedule and are looking forward to the challenge.”
Upon returning to campus in January, the Cougars take on the NCAA Division II regular season RMAC champions Westminster in a preseason match up on Feb. 4.
Following the Saturday night contest, BYU will quickly switch its focus to a three-game trip in Southern California. The Cougars will first face a tough UCLA squad on Feb. 8. Two days later on Feb. 10, BYU will battle Southwest Lacrosse Conference (SLC) favorite Concordia.
The Cougars will then see a rematch from the national quarterfinals as they play the 2022 SLC champion USC to finish the road trip on Feb. 11.
The Cougars go back on the road for a three-games stretch in Arizona and the beginning of a nine-game run in the month of March.
First, the Cougars face off against Arizona State on March 2 followed by Grand Canyon the next day. The Cougars will wrap up the trip with a neutral-site contest in Phoenix against Michigan State.
The Cougars return to Provo for a four-game, seven-day home stretch.
They take on defending 2022 Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League (PNCLL) champions Boise State on March 11 followed by a Monday afternoon home contest against New Hampshire on March 13. The Cougs will host Utah State on March 17 then wrap up the week with a highly anticipated game on March 18 against Liberty.
BYU travels north to face the newest addition to the RMLC Division I ranks -- instate rival and defending Division II national champions Utah on March 29.
Following the rivalry battle and to wrap up March, the Cougars will host the 2022 West Coast Lacrosse League (WCLL) champions Cal Poly on March 31.
Entering April, the Cougars will host 2022 tournament finalist Georgia Tech on April 7. The remainder of conference play will wrap up the regular season as the Cougs play host to cross-town rival Utah Valley on April 15, six-time MCLA champion Colorado State on April 20, and 2022 RMLC finalist Colorado on April 22.
"We have a really good schedule that will test and prepare us for the postseason,'' said senior Nate Norton. "We have some really good games against teams we've played before, such as Georgia Tech, Liberty and Concordia. Those games have been intense the past couple of years and will be great matchups this year."
The postseason will begin with the RMLC tournament on April 28-29 in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Cougars look to defend their 2022 RMLC championship while securing a bid to the 2023 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance, which take place May 8-13 at the Round Rock (Texas) Multipurpose Complex.
