St. John's Unveils Schedule
from a St. John's release
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – St. John's lacrosse is excited to announce the release of the 2023 schedule.
This year’s schedule includes five home games and eight away/neutral site games. St. John's hopes for a return trip to Chicago for the UMLC tournament and earn an invite to Round Rock, Texas, for the 2023 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance.
The Johnnies open their season with a pair of scrimmages. On Feb. 10, St. John's hosts Northland (NCAA D-III) University before Northwestern (NCAA D-III) visits a week later on Feb.18.
The MCLA season commences on Feb. 25 when SJU hosts Iowa State in Collegeville.
In March, the Johnnies get right into it, taking their fight to Logan, Utah, to play three games.
Starting on Mar. 4, they play Northwest Nazarene in Utah followed by Colorado School of Mines the following morning. After a day of rest, they close out their trip with a matchup against Utah State on Mar. 7.
“We are excited to get to Logan and challenge ourselves versus three great teams,” said St. John's coach Adam Benney. “Utah State is becoming a fun cross-country rival for us, and we expect a tight game.”
After a long break, the Johnnies will close out March by playing Minn-Duluth at St. Michael Albertville High School Dome on Mar. 25.
Not long after, the Johnnies will host Minnesota in Collegeville on Apr. 2nd. After a two-week hiatus, the Johnnies will take their second road trip of the year and head down to Ames, Iowa, where they will start their trip with a contest against Missouri St. on Apr. 15.
The second matchup will be played against Drury on Apr. 16 to round out the road trip.
After a quick turnaround, the Johnnies will come back to Minnesota and play NDSU at Moorhead High School on Apr. 19.
To close out the regular season, the Johnnies will have their final two home games of the season. The first is a rival contest against St. Thomas on Apr. 21 followed by Dayton on Apr. 23.
“There is nothing like a Johnnie-Tommie game and we are proud that the lacrosse team can keep the tradition going,” Benney said “With it being a Friday night in Collegeville, we know the fans will be coming out.”
The Johnnies will then start their postseason run at the UMLC tournament in Chicago. If the Johnnies win, they will earn an automatic qualifying bid to nationals, which will be take place from May 8-13.
