D-I Poll: Make Way for the Gators
ATLANTA – Florida has assumed the top spot in the most recent MCLA Division I New Balance Weekly Coaches Poll, which was released on April 5.
The Gators (11-1), who moved up from No. 4 last week, grabbed a plurality (12) of the first-place votes to ascend to No. 1 for the first time this spring. Florida turns its gaze toward No. 14 and archrival Florida State (10-3) on Saturday in hopes of wrapping up the top seed out of the SELC South.
Virginia Tech (10-2) moved up a spot into the second chair after an idle week, grabbing a first-place vote for its trouble. Liberty (10-2) dips to the third position after taking an upset loss to No. 17 South Carolina (4-7). The Flames garnered three top votes.
Utah Valley (10-1) continues its march up the charts, elevating to No. 4 this week, bolstered by five first-place votes. Georgia (10-1), fresh off its domination of No. 9 Georgia Tech (9-3), rounds out the Top 5. The Dawgs grabbed a pair of first-place nods.
Boston College (6-1) remained in the sixth spot, but did pick up three fresh first-place votes to keep them in the mix. No. 10 Concordia (7-2) snagged the last No. 1 ballot.
Southern Methodist (9-3) gets booted out of the poll this week to make way for No. 25 Oregon (5-3).
