SMU’s Maseker Earns Pearl Honor
ATLANTA – After leading Southern Methodist to a victory over a ranked conference opponent, Mustangs sophomore netminder Declan Maseker is the MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending April 16.
Matching up with No. 24 LSU in Dallas, the Madison, N.J., backstop turned away 18 shots in the Mustangs 9-8 victory, good for a 69.2 save percentage.
Maseker was also credited with four ground balls.
“The lefty continues to impress in his first year as a starter,” said Southern Methodist coach Eric Skeen. “His quick hands do most of the work, but his ability to use the rest of his body to stop the balls sets him apart.
“Declan’s command over the Mustang defensive unit, along with his timely dimes on clears, puts SMU in a great place to win week in and week out. We’re looking forward to his continued success in the LSA playoffs.”
For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, Maseker will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.
