ATLANTA – After backstopping Chapman to the SLC Division I championship over the weekend, Panthers junior netminder Jason Bohlinger is the PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending April 30.
The Yorba Linda, Calif., native opened the weekend with 30 minutes of work in Chapman’s semifinal win against the Sun Devils. He made 10 saves and allowed just three goals as the Panthers advanced, 10-7.
In the title game against Concordia – a team that beat Chapman in the last week of the regular season – Bohlinger was a wall, turning away 15 of the 20 shots he saw for a 75.0 save percentage.
For the season, Bohlinger is stopping 62.3 percent of the shots that come his way.
"Bohlinger, and Andy Marks, really stepped up for us this weekend," said Chapman coach Joel Kallas. "Our goalie play really shows how well our defense has been playing, but when there have been breakdowns, the ball still has to get past the netminder.
"Shot stopping is only one component of goalie play though; communication and leadership between the pipes is just as important to ensure you are getting the shots you want to see.
"Lastly, being the quarterback of the clears to ensure the offense gets the ball is the third slice of the pie. Our netminders, dubbed the 'Goalie Mafia,' are the backbone of our team and have all contributed to the successes we have achieved so far."
For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, Bohlinger will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.
