NNU’s Bean Grabs Warrior Honor
ATLANTA – After leading Northwest Nazarene to a Top 10 win and a near-miss at a second, Nighthawk junior attackman Keaton Bean has been named the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending March 3.
Northwest Nazarene started its San Diego adventure on Thursday when the Nighthawks tangled with No. 10 UC San Diego. Thanks to nine goals from the Tigard, Ore., product, NNU squeezed out the 15-14 triumph.
On Saturday, the Nighthawks went up against No. 9 Cal State San Marcos and again Bean was a force. He scored six goals and set up four others as Northwest Nazarene came up a goal short in the 18-17 setback.
Of the 32 goals that the Nighthawks scored on the trip, Bean factored in on 19 of them – 60 percent.
"For the past couple years, he's flown under the radar, but I think late last year he started getting noticed for some of the numbers he was putting up,” said Northwest Nazarene coach Tom Blanchard. “This year he's on an entirely new level and that's evident by the performances he had against two perennial powers this past weekend in California.
"Put the stats aside, he's just a great teammate and an even better person that helps lay the foundation for the type of culture we want to cultivate here at NNU."
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Bean will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
