CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The University of Miami has hired Bruce Meierdiercks to be its men's lacrosse coach, effective immediately.

Meierdiercks brings over 40 years of coaching experience to the position, both in the NCAA and each division of the MCLA. In 2013, he left Santa Clara to start a new program from scratch at Sierra Nevada. The first-year program went 7-0, followed by an undefeated second year and a berth in the MCLA National Championships.

Meierdiercks retired, moved to Florida and underwent total knee replacement surgery, taking the year off from coaching to rehab.

"I am back," Meierdiercks said with a smile. "The 'U' has a lot going for it. It has great facilities and is only 15 minutes from South Beach, 15 minutes from Miami
International and 40 min from the Keys."

The new coach will hope to build on last year's 3-8 campaign by utilizing the school's academics to attract quality student-athletes to the program.

"This is a 'Tropical Ivy' and the level of lacrosse in the conference is high," said Meierdiercks. "I'm looking forward to the challenge this season and no snow."
