Monday Round One: Top Seeds Hold

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Chalk held amongst the top two seeds in each division in the first session of the first round of the 2025 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance.

No. 1 Liberty d. No. 16 Minnesota, 21-8
The Golden Gophers took an early lead and were still tied with the top-ranked Flames after the first quarter, 5-5, but Liberty took control from there. The Flames went on a 10-0 run and kept Minnesota scoreless for nearly 30 minutes to blow things open in an eventual, 21-8 victory. Keaton Mohs had a monster day with a sock trick and four dimes for 10 total points -- tied for second most in tournament history. Owen Carlson struck for six goals in the losing effort.

No. 1 Florida Atlantic d. No. 16 UC Davis, 16-9
The top-seeded Owls jumped out to a 7-2 lead after 15 minutes and cruised home for the 16-9 triumph. Jacob Johnson had four goals and a dime in the winning effort while Alexander Ackerman turned away 10 shots. Marcello Battista had five goals for the Aggies while Glyn Carson had seven stops.

No. 2 Grand Valley State d. No. 15 College of Idaho, 17-5
Caleb Lowell had six goals and an apple to lead the Lakers to a dominant performance over the Yotes. GVSU led, 11-1 at the half and walked home the win, advancing to the quarterfinals. College of Idaho was led by Grayson Flatten, who finished with two goals and an assist. Jacob Wong made eight stops for the Yotes while two goalies combined for seven stops for the Lakers.

No. 2 Utah Valley d. No. 15 Boise State, 18-7
Twelve different scorers connected for the Wolverines, including five markers from Blake Yates, as UVU built a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes and never looked back. Jack Hunter and Colton Altimus had a pair of goals to pace the Broncos. Max Sturgill and Patrick Thomas combined for 19 saves in the cage for the Wolverines.
