ATLANTA – With conference postseason positioning on the line, Sonoma State sophomore netminder Riley Corcoran came up big for the Seawolves, earning himself the MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending April 6.
With a chance to essentially lock in a home seed in the first round of the WCLL tournament, Sonoma State hosted Bay Area rival California on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to 14 saves from the Redondo Beach, Calif., product, the Seawolves walked away with a gritty, 8-7 victory.
His numbers were good enough for a 66.7 save percentage. Corcoran and Sonoma can lock up the No. 3 seed in the playoffs with a win over Nevada this Sunday.
“Riley was incredibly consistent making the saves he should have, while stealing a few that usually would have ended up in the back of the net,” said Sonoma State coach Ben Hewitt. “The rest of the team fed off of the momentum he gave us, which was a big part of the victory.”
As the recipient of the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, Corcoran will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.
