ATLANTA – After leading the Hokies to an important road victory over one of last year’s national semifinalists, Virginia Tech senior midfielder Alex Ashley was tabbed the D-I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 9.
Facing Liberty – the only team to advance to the national semifinals the past two seasons – Virginia Tech scored the third most goals the Flames have given up in the last three years, largely thanks to Ashley.
The Ashburn, Va., product struck for six goals and set up a seventh to guide the Hokies to a 16-12 victory. He has 10 goals and three assists so far for 3-0 Tech.
"Alex is an incredible young man and an excellent lacrosse player,” said Virginia Tech coach Panchito Ojeda. “He stepped up in a big game to deliver for his teammates, but honestly, it is his humility and work ethic that has gotten him here.
“He is a huge part of our success whether it be a tough ride, scoring goals or hard-nosed ground balls. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to deliver on the center stage."
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Ashley will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
