Mo. State Names Five Captains
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Seniors Matt Krick, Matt Hanes and Mason Goodwin as well as sophomores Cooper Kelley and Burke Smith will be team captains for the 2016 season, head coach Dustin Rich announced.
Krick, a senior midfielder from Eureka, Mo., will be a captain for the second straight year. In 2015 he was third on the team in goals scored (15) and points (18). Krick has been the president of the lacrosse student leadership board for two years, and will be graduating from Missouri State in May.
Hanes is a senior defenseman from St. Louis who spent his first two years of collegiate lacrosse at Lees-McRae (NCAA DII). Hanes made his debut with the team in 2015 as a dominant defender as well as a transition threat as he scored 6 goals in 11 games. Hanes was a third team all-conference long-stick middie in 2015.
Goodwin, a senior from Florissant, Mo., is entering his fourth yearas the starting netminder for the Bears, as well as his second year as a captain. In 2015, Goodwin had his best statistical year in cage with a 60.5 save percentage. Goodwin is a two-time GRLC honorable mention
All-Conference goalie (2015, 2013) and will be graduating with a degree in hospitality and restaurant administration in May.
Kelley is a sophomore midfielder from Republic, Mo. In only his second year with the team, Kelley has quickly established himself as one of the hardest working players on the field. Kelley scored three goals and added four assists through 10 games in 2015. Kelley is pursuing a degree in mass media while at Missouri State.
Smith a sophomore midfielder from St. Louis. Smith played his first year of collegiate lacrosse at NCAA Division III Concordia (Wis.). In his short time with the team, Smith has quickly distinguished himself as one of the most vocals member of the team. Smith will contribute as a first line midfielder as well as a member of the team’s man-up squad.
The Bears first game of the 2016 season will be on Feb. 12 at 7 pm against the University of Missouri.
