USC Names Captains for 2016
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The USC men’s lacrosse team has elected two players to lead the program as captains for the 2016 season. The elected captains will be accompanied by an additional game captain, who will be selected each week based on the hard work and team orientation during practices leading up to the game, which was announced by the executive board and head coach Adam Ghitelman.
Elected by their peers, senior midfielder Ross Ewing (Keene, N.H./Williston Northampton) and sophomore long-stick middie Peter Hollen (San Diego/Torrey Pines), will share captain responsibilities this spring. Both Ewing and Hollen are also leaders of the executive board, where Ewing serves as president and Hollen as vice president.
As a freshman, Ewing was part of the group that reestablished the USC program in 2013. Hollen has picked up the mantle and is an outspoken leader both on and off the field.
"I'm honored to have been selected by my teammates and coaches to serve as co-captain of the 2016 USC men's lacrosse team with Peter Hollen,” Ewing said. “Peter's an exceptional young leader of this team, and it's very humbling to have been selected to lead alongside him. With the injection of quality freshman, sophomores and transfers, along with the energy and ambition that Coach Gihtelman and the rest of our coaching staff has brought to this program, we enter the season with lofty expectations and will work each practice and each game to strive towards our ultimate goals."
Added Hollen: “We are all excited for the season. With Coach Ghitleman's help, we are transforming the team's culture. Wheels are turning. We have great expectations and hope to surprise some people.”
"The team has clearly chosen two young men who are both leaders on and off the field to help lead us this season," Ghitelman said. "These two men have played key roles in developing the winning attitude and work ethic of this team. They do a great job representing the team as student-athletes and building the USC Trojan lacrosse brand. I’m thrilled to work with them.”
