Sierra Nevada Stonewalls San Diego
INCLINE VILLAGE, NV - A four-goal third quarter propelled No. 12 Sierra Nevada over No. 23 ranked Toreros from the University of San Diego on Wednesday afternoon. Five different Eagles scored in the 7-4 victory.
Dylan Fangmeier and Nic Zvirzin each scored a goal to put the Eagles on the board in the first half.
Strong goalie play by both teams would keep the game a low-scoring affair. Sierra Nevada only led the Toreros 2-0 at halftime. Five goals in the second half gave the Eagles the output necessary to secure the win.
"Our M.O. this season is becoming that of a blue collar, grind it out style team. It is difficult to score on our defense and our offense capitalizes on opportunities," said Eagle coach Matt Blamey. "There is something to be said for feeling comfortable when the game is close. USD made a late run and our guys weathered the storm. We're getting better at not hitting the panic button."
Sierra Nevada moves to 8-1 on the season. The Eagles are set to take on WCLL rival UC Santa Cruz on Saturday in SNC's final road game of the spring. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00PM.
