Fullerton Captures SLC-II Crown
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton sophomore Cole Schleppy’s fifth goal of the game came in overtime, giving the Titans a 14-13 victory over Cal State San Marcos in the championship of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) Division II tournament.
With the win, Fullerton (10-4) automatically qualifies for the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 7-12.
In a game of runs, San Marcos (13-2) appeared to have the decisive one when the Cougars took a 13-9 lead into the fourth quarter.
Four unanswered markers in the final frame by the Titans brought everything level, setting the stage for Schleppy.
This will be Cal State Fullerton’s sixth appearance at nationals, with the last visit coming in ’17. San Marcos will await its at-large fate this evening.
