SELC-I Tournament Brackets Set

April 20th, 2018 General News | Clemson | Florida | Florida State | Georgia | Georgia Tech | Liberty | South Carolina | Virginia Tech

ATLANTA – Four contests featuring eight nationally-ranked teams are on tap in the quarterfinals of the 2018 SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Division I tournament, which begins on Friday at sites in and around the Johns Creek, Ga., area.

In the early 5:30 p.m. window on Friday, No. 1NE South Carolina (14-0, 4-0) will look for its first tournament win in over a decade when it squares off with No. 2SE Florida (11-4, 3-1). The two met on Feb. 17 in Gainesville with the Gamecocks taking the 15-4 victory.

The final three games will take place at 8 p.m., starting with No. 1SE Florida State (10-3, 4-0) battling No. 2NE Clemson (13-2, 3-1). The Seminoles are on a five-game winning streak entering the postseason while the Tigers had their 10-game streak snapped by South Carolina in the regular season finale.

No. 1SW Georgia Tech (10-4, 5-0), the two-time defending SELC champion, will have its hands full in the quarterfinals with No. 2NW Liberty (7-4, 3-1). The Flames and Yellow Jackets met in last year’s SELC championship game.

Rounding out the quarterfinal contests will be No. 1NW Virginia Tech (9-4, 4-0) going head-to-head with No. 2SW Georgia (8-5, 4-1). The Hokies have won five of the last six while the Bulldogs have lost two of the last three.

“It’s pretty amazing to have an eight-team tournament and all of them sporting a national ranking,” said SELC director Mike Dubbelde. “The team that manages to win three games in three days will be ready to take on the nation’s best in Salt Lake City.”

Admission to the 2018 SELC Tournament, which is sponsored by Warrior/New Balance and the Johns Creek Visitors Bureau, is $10 for an adult day pass and $5 for students. Adult weekend passes can be purchased for $20 and students are $10. Children 9 and under are free as are students up to 18 wearing a lacrosse jersey.

The winner of the 2018 SELC Tournament will receive an automatic qualifying bid to the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Amour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 7-11.
