BOULDER, Colo. -- The Colorado men's lacrosse program has opened the search for both an assistant coach and a director of operations for the 2018 season.
Assistant Lacrosse Coach
Compensation
Stipend will be commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications. Practice times are early mornings and/or evening.
Overview
Under the direction of the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach, the Assistant Coach assists in coaching the men’s lacrosse team. The incumbent will promote the collegiate sports clubs and virtual varsity-intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the university.
This position will assist the head coach and staff in planning and directing the education of student athletes in the techniques, skills, and theory of men's lacrosse. This individual will support the conditioning and training of athletic team members in conjunction with strength/weight coaches, athletic trainers and team physicians.
They will assist as requested in contest scheduling and coordination of team travel. This position will coordinate with the head assistant, in confirming RMLC and MCLA, University of Colorado rules and regulations, ensure student compliance with written team rules, and assist in the promotion of fundraising activities and/or the promotion of events, as requested.
This position will be designated to help bring ideas for clinics and camp assistant, travel coordinator and equipment point person.
Position Summary
Student-Athlete Skill Instruction And Team Preparation
- Teach all basic and advanced skills required in the sport of men's lacrosse. The teaching of these skills and the development of those student-athletes occurs year round during individual skill sessions, team practices, and conditioning sessions independent of the Head Coach. This includes the independent development and implementation of sound and safe practice plans that successfully prepare the student-athletes with the fundamentals of the specific sport.
- Responsible for assisting the Head Coach in developing a comprehensive and strategic game plan for each scheduled contest throughout the season. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating upcoming opponents by breaking down game tapes, preparing a scouting report for the student-athletes and advising the head coach on making adjustments to the game plan during contests.
Recruiting
- Use independent discretion and judgment in identifying student-athletes capable of competing both academically and athletically. The assistant coach will play a role in active recruitment of those identified student-athletes. The Assistant Coach is responsible for managing an assigned recruiting class and identifying prospective student-athletes through thorough research, by independently evaluating talent at local and national events, and initiating correspondence and maintaining relationship with coaches and prospects.
- The Assistant Coach is responsible for managing a database of prospects and maintaining records of contacts, to remain in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University regulations. The Assistant Coach must propose, manage and adhere to a recruiting budget for each of the events attended.
Administrative Responsibilities
- The Assistant Coach will be responsible for the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the head coach, which include, but not limited to, team travel, contest scheduling, budget preparation and administration, facility usage, public relations, marketing, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program. The Assistant Coach is required to work independently with various support services in the Department of Athletics and campus constituents carrying out these tasks.
University Rules, NCAA Rules and Compliance:
- Have a working knowledge of, and adherence to, Collegiate Sport Club, NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the men's lacrosse program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with the faculty, staff, students, and supporters from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and support the gender and diversity goals of the department and lacrosse program
- Ability to be professional at all times as laid out in the rules and expectations provided by the head coach and to represent the university, and Men's Lacrosse Program both on and off the field with integrity, sportsmanship, pride, and honor
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree preferred from an accredited four-year institution
- Some prior coaching experience, collegiate or club level or willingness to learn.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience playing lacrosse at the collegiate level
- Strong knowledge of various social media outlets
- Knowledge and willingness to learn Krossover, G-Docs, Microsoft, Hudl, Scorebreak, and/or Macbook Apps

Director of Lacrosse Operations/Assistant Coach
Essential Director of Lacrosse Operations Functions
- Arranges travel for men’s lacrosse team contests conducted away from campus.
- Coordinates fundraising and promotional activities
- Coordinates camps and clinics for the men’s
- Arranges all practice facility usage both on and off campus.
- Assists in monitoring the academic performance of men’s lacrosse student-athletes.
- Handles the men’s film exchange program.
- Orders and distributes all team apparel and equipment.
- Assists in driving the teams on all travel trips (if necessary).
- Other duties as assigned by the head men’s
Essential Assistant Coach Functions

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or moving to completion.

- Working knowledge of Collegiate Sport Club, NCAA and University rules and regulations as they pertain to student-athletes and prospective student-athletes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and proven organizational skills.

- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to persuade encourage and motivate team members.
- Possesses a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work successfully with all levels of the organization and diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
- Working knowledge of Men’s Lacrosse.
