Rhode Island Opens Coaching Search
KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of Rhode Island is accepting applications for the position of head men’s lacrosse coach.
This position will be open until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by July 13, 2018. Second consideration may be given applications received by July 27, 2018. Applications received subsequent to second consideration date (July 27, 2018) may not be given full consideration.
Position Summary
This is a part time, varied-hours position that is responsible for all aspects of the development and administration of a successful lacrosse program, in conjunction with the team’s student-leaders and the Coordinator of Club Sports. Men’s lacrosse is a club sport and falls under the Department of Campus Recreation at the University.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the team, in conjunction with the team’s student-leaders and the Coordinator of Club Sports
- Teach and develop sport-specific skills in a successful, safe and prudent manner
- Attend all home and away competitions
- Attend all practices
- Schedule and coordinate all events including practices, team meetings, and competitions
- Manage safety and risk management for the team
- Adhere to all relevant guidelines, policies and procedures
- Promote fair play and good sportsmanship at all practices and competitions
- Supervise all assistant coaches in conjunction with the Coordinator of Club Sports
- Work with the Coordinator of Club Sports to plan all travel
- Oversee equipment distribution, return and storage
- Monitor the eligibility of all student-athletes in conjunction with the Coordinator of Club Sports
- Assist in the recruitment of student-athletes interested in the URI Men’s Lacrosse Team through meetings, campus visitations, and correspondence via telephone, email, etc.
- In cooperation with the Coordinator of Club Sports and the team’s student-leaders, aid and assist with all team fundraisers
- Assist student leaders with formulation of the team’s annual budget in accordance with the timetable and guidelines set by the Coordinator of Club Sports and the Club Sports and Intramural Council (CSIC)
- In cooperation with team leaders and the Coordinator of Club Sports, maintain and update the Alumni mailing list on an annual basis
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 2 years lacrosse coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level
- At least 4 years removed from college
- Demonstrated knowledge of lacrosse rules
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated evidence of current First Aid/AED/CPR certifications or ability to obtain within one month of employment
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends
- Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationally
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
3 years coaching experience
Collegiate lacrosse playing experience
Coaching or playing experience within the MCLA
Experience managing budgets
